Auf dem Weg von Chernobyl nach Pripyat liegt abseits der Strasse das märchenhafte Ferienlager „Emerald“. Märchenhaft ist das Lager aber nicht nur wegen seiner idyllischen Lage in einem Kiefernwald mit Ufer zu einem kleinem Fluß, sondern die bunten Holzhütten waren mit handgemalten Bildern aus sowjetischen Märchen geschmückt.

Als Tüpfelchen auf dem I soll im Sommer ein angenehmer Harzgeruch sich durch das Camp gezogen haben. Für die Arbeiter des nur ein paar Kilometer entfernten Kernkraftwerks war dies die Möglichkeit in ihren Ferien dem gefährlichen Alltag zu entfliehen und den Sommer in der Natur zu verbringen.

Stand heute ( 10.04.2020) ist das Camp einem Waldbrand zum Opfer gefallen, jedoch gibt es bisher keine verlässlichen Bildquellen die es entgültig bestätigen. Aber es sieht nicht gut aus.

On the way from Chernobyl to Pripyat lies the fairytale holiday camp ‚Emerald‘ off the road. The camp is not only fairytale-like because of its idyllic location in a pine forest with a bank to a small river, but the colorful wooden huts were decorated with hand-painted pictures from Soviet fairy tales.

As the icing on the cake, a pleasant smell of resin is said to have permeated the camp in summer. For the workers of the nuclear power plant just a few kilometers away, this was the opportunity to escape the dangerous everyday life during their holidays and to spend the summer in nature.

As of today (April 10th, 2020), the camp fell victim to a forest fire, but so far there are no reliable image sources to confirm it. But it doesn’t look good.
